Liverpool vs Chelsea: Klopp receives triple injury boost ahead of EPL clash

Former Netherlands boss, Bert van Marwijk, has told Manchester United midfielder, Donny Van de Beek, that he must develop other qualities for him to succeed at Old Trafford.

Marwijk believes Man United players are overlooking Van de Beek and have contributed to the -year-old’s struggles at the club.

Van de Beek has failed to make an impact at Man United after his £40 million move from Ajax last summer.

The Netherlands international, who was left out of Man United’s 0-0 draw against Chelsea last Sunday, has started just two matches in the Premier League for the Red Devils this term.

“I think Donny van den Beek is an excellent football ,” Van Marwijk wrote in his column for De Telegraaf ahead of Man United’s away clash with Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

“So, I understand that Manchester United paid him some £35m last summer. Only he plays far too little. On Sunday, he was again on the bench for 90 minutes in the match against Chelsea.

“How is that possible? Van de Beek isn’t suddenly a bad football player or someone who couldn’t handle the level. I think that is why it’s not a matter of too little quality, but that other things are also involved in a different environment.

“His well-timed runs are not recognised there. So, this is also a problem for him.

“He is an excellent player, but at the same time, he is dependent on his teammates and the position play that brings his team to the pitch.

“In order to succeed and abroad, it seems that something else is necessary. Then you will also have to have or develop other qualities.

“If your teammates overlook you and the game isn’t aligned with you, you will also need to be able to find your way.

“Then that good team player will have to think about themselves and also have the technical and tactical qualities to make the difference on their own.”
