Real Madrid have informed that Toni Kroos is isolating after having come into close contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus.
The German has tested negative in all of his tests, but he will remain apart from the rest of the squad whilst the medical team rule out the possibility that he has been infected.
More problems for Real Madrid. Toni Kroos is isolating just two days before their clash against Athletic for having come into close contract with a person who tested positive for coronavirus. The club confirmed this in an official letter which detailed how, at the moment, the player has tested negative in all of the PCR tests he has taken.
“Real Madrid C. F. reports that our player Toni Kroos is currently in isolation after being in contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, although all tests carried out on the player have come back negative”, the letter published on the club’s website explained.
The focus is now on the club’s medical team to assure as soon as possible that the German hasn’t been infected. Only then would he have time to prepare himself for the encounter against Athletic, a pivotal match for Zidane’s side to keep their options open for La Liga and keep the pressure on Atletico, who play Osasuna at the same time on Sunday.
The endless list of physical and COVID-related problems that have ravaged Madrid this season has been incredible. It is here that backgound players – such as those from the academy – are having to step forward. An example of this has been Miguel Gutierrez, who put on a great display against Sevilla.
The lastest estimations from the Centre for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies indicate that the average incubation period for coronavirus is 5.1 days. This means that Toni Kroos will have to wait until next week to confirm whether or not he has COVID-19, providing that his contact occured on the same day that the club informed on the matter.
What works in Madrid’s favour is the countless occasions that the club have informed that one of their players has tested positive, while the rest of the squad have been able to continue playing completely safe, despite having come into close contact. In any case, we await a new statement to find out whether Kroos will feature against Athletic Bilbao.
